Final Fantasy VII: Revelation Will Conclude the Remake Trilogy. Cloud Prepares for His Final Battle with Sephiroth

Final Fantasy

During Summer Game Fest 2026, Square Enix officially unveiled Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the third and final chapter of the remake trilogy based on the legendary 1997 RPG. The game will continue the story following the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and bring Cloud Strife's journey to its epic conclusion as he and his allies fight for the fate of the planet.

The World Stands on the Brink of Destruction

The story picks up shortly after the events of Rebirth. The devastating Meteor continues its descent toward the planet, Sephiroth grows ever closer to godlike power, and the world is threatened by colossal beings known as the Weapons. To prevent catastrophe, Cloud and his companions embark on their final journey aboard the iconic Highwind airship, determined to stop the coming disaster before it is too late.

The Largest World in the Remake Series

One of the biggest additions will be a fully interconnected open world. The developers have confirmed that the map will be significantly larger than the one featured in Rebirth, allowing players to freely travel across the entire planet using the Highwind. One of the most exciting new features is the ability to parachute from the airship almost anywhere and seamlessly transition from flight directly into exploration.

The trailer also showcased the return of several iconic locations, including Wutai, Mideel, and other beloved areas that have been completely reimagined for modern audiences.

New Playable Characters

For the first time in the remake trilogy, players will be able to fully control:

  • Vincent Valentine
  • Cid Highwind

Both characters will feature unique abilities, distinct combat styles, and a much larger role in the overall story.

The New FITS System

Revelation introduces a brand-new gameplay mechanic called FITS (Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear). This system allows characters to equip specialized gear that grants unique abilities and gameplay effects, significantly expanding build customization and team composition options. According to Square Enix, the system is designed to offer greater tactical flexibility while encouraging experimentation with different character combinations.

Choices Will Shape the Journey, Not the Ending

The developers have confirmed that players will make various decisions throughout the game that influence character relationships and certain story events. However, Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will feature a single canonical ending shared by all players. While the path to the finale may differ depending on individual choices, the ultimate conclusion of the story will remain the same.

Release Date and Platforms

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 as part of the celebrations surrounding the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII. For the first time in the remake series, the game will launch simultaneously across all major platforms:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
