During Summer Game Fest 2026, ArenaNet officially announced Guild Wars 3. According to game director Colin Johanson, the goal is to push the MMORPG genre forward while preserving the elements that fans love about the series. The world is intended to feel alive, believable, and rewarding for players. At the same time, the developers want to make the game accessible to newcomers. A strong focus on community and shared experiences comes as no surprise for the genre, but it remains to be seen how ArenaNet plans to achieve this vision.
The story will take place approximately 1,200 years before the events of Guild Wars 2. Players will travel to the region of Orr, which during this period is a land where various guilds and factions are engaged in constant conflict.
Among the biggest new features are:
- A new movement system
- Seekers – companions that will also serve as mounts
- A revamped combat system
- Platforms – in addition to PC, the game is also coming to Steam and PlayStation 5
The beta test is scheduled for Autumn 2027.
